The middle-distance race is a slow activity where muscle contraction has clearly longer activation times than in other sports like for example skiing or volleyball. The middle-distance runner runs distances of 1500m / 3000m steeplechase / 5000 m and 10.000 m. It is a discipline that demands great character and sacrifice spirit. The training is tough and an essential element is the attention that should be paid to an aimed and personalised alimentation. Extra kilograms, as in all other aerobic sports, are heavier than in technical disciplines where equipment plays a basic part (skiing). On the other hand, a toned and well shaped musculature, without any abundant fat, with inherent characteristics that reflect the peculiar physical properties, is essential and basic for the athlete to attain the highest level of his ambition. Accordingly, the frequencies that have been taken in consideration for electrostimulation are rather low, while the electrical impulse is definitely long. The goal, in fact, is to create the bases for the muscle contraction mechanism that from a biochemical point of view pulls on the spare energy related to aerobic synthesis. In any case, also for the middle-distance runner counts that the muscle districts mostly excited are those of the lower limbs, especially the femoral quadriceps and biceps. Even if, obviously, one cannot ignore the fact that there is a motor synergy like in any other sports discipline that compels to work in a definitely different way also regarding the strengthening of the whole musculature of the body.
